Maybe you’ve heard of it… or maybe you haven’t yet? Either way, we tell you all about it!

During the French Rowing Championships 2025, Liteboat had the pleasure of being an official partner of Beach Sprint Rowing, a spectacular and fast-growing discipline. Nearly 800 athletes from all over France competed in a sporting and festive atmosphere.

But what exactly is Beach Sprint Rowing?

The principle is simple: a 50-metre run starting from the beach, a rapid boarding of a rowing boat, a 250-metre slalom between buoys before finishing with an express disembarkation and a final sprint to the finish line. All in a duel, against a single opponent: intensity guaranteed!

In August 2015, at the very first Mediterranean Beach Games in Pescara (Italy), the world discovered this new form of rowing at sea: more dynamic, more visual, more accessible.

Why is Beach Sprint Rowing so popular? Because this discipline succeeds in a daring challenge: to make rowing more spectacular, more fun and closer to the public.

Diving to the ground to activate the buzzer and cross the finish line: a finale that transforms the race into a real show.

But the strength of this discipline also lies in its accessibility and diversity. Whether you’re a man or a woman, you can compete solo, in a mixed double or in a mixed coxed quadruple sculls.

This format is attracting more and more rowers from traditional river rowing backgrounds, in search of new sensations and challenges.

As in a triathlon, each race is punctuated by a series of transitions to be mastered. You have to manage the hectic transition between running and water, follow this up with a rapid boarding – feet braced, oars in hand – then finish with an express disembarkation before the final sprint on the sand.

And yes, in this discipline, everything can come down to the smallest detail!

That’s why this discipline will be represented at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028. A fun new sport to keep an eye on!
